Last Wednesday, on behalf of the Holy See, I participated in a conference exploring the intersection of AI tools and Human Trafficking. The event was organised by the Council of Europe’s Anti-Trafficking Division and the Maltese Government (currently holding the rotating Presidency of the CoE).
It was encouraging to observe a common consensus on needing to ensure that human dignity remains a political priority and ensuring that while everything is done to harness novel technologies in the fight against Human Trafficking, this is done in a way that strengthens the human element as opposed to replacing it.
The Holy See has expressed numerous times its commitment to aid in fostering collaboration between relevant stakeholders to continue the fight against this terrible reality.
