AI-Generated Speech, Theology and Ethical Design

This morning, I had the pleasure of delivering a talk at the Research Seminar organised by the Institute of Theology, Imagination and the Arts at St Mary’s College, University of St Andrews.

I spoke about some of the theological and ethical issues I am currently grappling with in an ongoing project at St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, working alongside Dylan Seychell, Mark Bugeja, Matthew Kenely and Matthew Mangion.

The discussion focused on the limits of AI-generated speech and the ethics of attributing discourse to historical figures.

We also explored where theology and ethical design intersect, and how best to navigate that terrain in applied projects.

It was encouraging to be with other academics and students thinking through these novel realities, especially in contexts where theory meets practice.
